Tech Update: CADRC Enhances Research with Digital Slide Scanner
The Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (CADRC) is pleased to announce a significant upgrade to its research infrastructure with the purchase of a new digital slide scanner.
Housed at the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC) at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), the scanner was officially installed in September 2025. This acquisition marks a major step forward in the efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration capabilities of our histology lab.
How it Works
The scanner converts traditional physical glass slides into high-resolution digital images. This transition from manual microscopy to a digital format allows researchers to:
- View and Analyze: Examine samples with high precision on computer screens.
- Collaborate: Seamlessly share digital files with other investigators for faster consultation.
- Preserve Data: Create a permanent digital record of physical samples.
Why This Matters for CADRC
Beyond improving day-to-day diagnostic quality and efficiency, this technology prepares the CADRC for the future of medicine. By digitizing our pathology samples, we are now positioned to move further into AI-driven pathology workflows, utilizing advanced computing to better understand and combat Alzheimer’s and related diseases.
