Dr. Appleby, leader of our Neuropathology Core, and his team at the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC) are officially assisting in Bio-RaPID, a study focused on Rapidly Progressive Dementia (RPD)—a condition that advances within weeks or months.
Led by Dr. Gregory Day, a neurologist and clinical researcher at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, the study aims to better understand the underlying causes of RPD. The NPDPSC will support Dr. Day by analyzing biological samples and contributing data, including from the CADRC.

The research aims to inform new approaches, diagnostic tests, and treatment targets to improve outcomes for patients with AD/ADRD, with the ultimate goal of slowing disease progression.
